Piotr Stasik's documentary is a personal reflection on the life of modern man in the city. The director brings to the screen twenty-one stories of New Yorkers, which form a picture of the society of the twenty-first century.
21 people, 21 stories. Piotr Stasik randomly catches passengers in the New York subway, shows their daily lives, problems and emotions. From these stories emerges a coherent image of modern metropolitan society, longing for true relationships, hunger for communication, interpersonal relationships and love. Dynamic photos of the New York metropolis are accompanied by intimate confessions of strangers and climatic, trance music.
"I had the impression that people were telling me things they hadn't told anyone before. The contacts were short but intense. They cost me a lot. Hooking up people at first was an adventure, later it became a difficult duty, when compositional considerations came into play and I missed, for example, a 40-year-old woman or an older man. I recorded 50 people, mostly single people. They all wanted to make friends with me. I began to feel terrible fatigue. At the same time, I was convinced that the film could be used to sum up my own life, be a tool for self-analysis, even a kind of therapy, looking at yourself with a foreign eye, release "- said the director in an interview with Tadeusz Sobolewski in" Gazeta Wyborcza ".
The film was nominated for the European Film Award and received the distinction for best directing in the Fiction / Non-fiction competition at the Millennium Docs Against Gravity in 2017.
