Analog Slit-scan photography
The slit-scan method, popularized in the mid-20th century, gained fame in the late 1960s when Douglas Trumball utilized it for the stargate sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
It entails exposing Þlm through a narrow slit over time, merging time & motion into a single image.
Unlike conventional photography’s snapshot, slit-scan captures the dynamic interplay of past, present, and future in a single shot.
Through analogue slit-scan portraits, I aim to showcase this rare effect by employing long exposures, color-changing light, and moving and rotating people in front ofthe self-developed analogue slit-scan camera.
Despite its rich heritage, the full potential of the analogue slit-scan technique remains largely untapped.
Felix Baßler has been utilizing the ’slitscan’ technique, evolving it as an analog process. This method, entirely "in-camera," preserves a documentary essence while embracing a surreal visual language. His work has been showcased in Germany, Switzerland, Macedonia, USA, India.
