Simona
Who was Simona Kossak truly – the legendary researcher who lived surrounded by animals in the Białowieża Forest? While the world is fascinated by the story of Jane Goodall, Simona is an equally complex and intriguing figure. Why did she escape from her family – the famous Kossak family? What was life like for the first Polish eco-activist in the 1970s? Unique, often presented for the first time in the film, photographs, and recordings from Simona and her partner Lech Wilczek's archive transport us to the ancient forest and allow us to experience an extraordinary life away from civilization.
Simona was the favorite of a crow terrorizing the area, she played a motherly role to a lynx and elks, and her empathetic approach to animals and plants not only allowed us to see the Białowieża Forest as a unique globally-scaled ecosystem but also helps us understand that we are co-inhabitants of the Earth and should allow other beings to live. This colorful, uncompromising, and ahead-of-her-time visionary often had to fight alone for the well-being and respect for nature.
After the screening of the film, there will be a meeting with the authors.
