Paweł Ciepielewski | Photography and Technology
Exhibition, Author Meeting, Lecture
15.09.2024, 12:00
2B+L Gallery, Houseboat La Mare, Tamka 2
The event will be held in Polish only.
Photography is inextricably linked with technology in its various aspects. Several key stages can be distinguished:
1. Image capture,
2. Methods of storing the captured image,
3. Techniques for creating an artifact accessible to the viewer,
4. Techniques and methods for storing and archiving the artifact,
5. Methods of storing, collecting, archiving, making accessible, and distributing images.
These stages and aspects of photography technology will be discussed and demonstrated through selected examples such as pinhole photography, negative photography, large-format photography, digital photography, as well as darkroom techniques, scanning and printing techniques, computer processing, and presentation methods both in exhibition form and electronic and online distribution. One interesting aspect is the increasing ease of image production with technological advancement, along with the potential impermanence of artifacts and the ease of their destruction, sometimes uncontrollably by the creator.
Paweł Ciepielewski
A professional photographer who has spent the past several decades working with virtually all existing photography techniques and technologies, from the photographic stage, used cameras, devices, lighting, to the processes of developing, scanning, laboratory and computer processing, preparing for print, the printing process itself in practically all existing technologies, and finally, the scenographic-expositional stage, i.e., the realization of finished exhibitions and presentations. Selected technologies will be used and demonstrated during the implementation of the other authors' projects in the Photography and Technology series. He is an enthusiast of special techniques, aerial photography, balloon photography, and ultra-large format photography.

Event from the Photography and series – activities of 2B+L Gallery at the 10th Vintage Photo Festival 2024 in Bydgoszcz
Photography is a crucial element of social communication. In 1620, Francis Bacon recognized the invention of printing as one of the three groundbreaking discoveries in world history (alongside gunpowder and the compass). Józef Żuk Piwkowski claims that the invention of photography, and consequently film, television, and digital photography, is the fourth groundbreaking discovery of civilizational significance.
2B+L Gallery plans to present four perspectives on photography and invite them to discussion.
